FAISALABAD:

The municipal administration has constituted 13 raiding teams to counter manufacturing, sale and stocking of fireworks in the district, District Coordination Officer Naseem Sadiq said on Friday.

The DCO said that two teams each would conduct raids in four urban towns: Iqbal Town, Lyallpur Town, Jinnah Town and Madina Town, whereas one team each would raid the Jaranwala, Tandlianwala, Chak Jhumra and Samundri tehsils. He constituted a team, headed by a civil defence officer, to take action against fireworks manufacturers and stockists across the district. He said the assistant commissioners, tehsil municipal officers and tehsil officers concerned had been nominated to head teams in their areas, while the City assistant commissioner will monitor the performance of the urban towns and the civil defence teams.

Later, Civil Defence DO Chaudhry Riaz told the DCO that he had recovered a huge quantity of fireworks in two raids last week, and had also arrested one of the manufacturers.
