Peace measures: Pillion ridding banned in Gilgit

GILGIT: In wake of back to back incidents of violence in Gilgit, the Gilgit District administration on Thursday imposed a ban on pillion ridding. A senior district administration official, Ali Sher, told The Express Tribune that the ban has been issued as a majority of “troublemakers” use motorcycles to carry out their activities. He added that the writ of the government will be established at any cost. At least three people have been killed, while two have been injured since last Monday during in separate incidents of violence in Gilgit and adjoining areas. Police have arrested 10 suspects so far. Security has been tightened in the city as law enforcing agencies - police, rangers, and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts - have increased patrolling on avenues across the city.
