India on Friday offered $5 million in aid to Pakistan for flood affectees after the country's worst ever floods.

Accrording to a PTI report, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna called Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and offered aid of $ 5 million in “this hour of need”.

“Government of India has offered assistance of $ 5 million (approximately Rs. 23 crore) for provision of relief material from India for the victims of the massive floods that have adversely affected Pakistan, causing widespread damage to life and property,” said an Indian External Affairs Ministry release.

Meanwhile, Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that Rs2 trillion are required at the initial stages to redress flood losses.

Briefing the media about the current situation in Peshawar, Mian Iftikhar said that an All Parties Conference has been called on Saturday.

He made it clear that this is not the time to politicise the issue of floods and that unity should be shown.

The minister informed media that flooding in K-P has left 1,010 people dead and 968 injured. He said the number of relief camps for the flood victims has increased to 17.

Pakistan is accepting money from HARAM countries that is the reason PAKISTAN is going through this turmoil. Look at any other ISLAMIC country have this kind of problem. None other then PAKISTAN." F. Alam | 14 years ago | Reply There is corruption on both side. I remember a news story which was about how Pakistani aid blankets in India were distributed to political workers of some member of Parliament near elections. They were tracked due to labels on them.

Remember in 2005 earthquake India offered 500 million dollars which Pak refused to accept except for a few relief supplies (there is report in Pak news papers that Made in Inda label was removed before distributing them). Inspite of this humiliation again India wanted to help flood victims. Guys please make a start for the new beginning. regards

If the money of all the corrupt politicians of India and Pakistan was brought back that they have siphoned off in foreign tax free havens there would be no poverty in the subcontinent. I think the biggest terrorists in the world are these secretive tax free havens like Switzerland that act all peaceful yet promote so much corruption and poverty in developing countries by allowing secretive banking for all the corrupt politicians of the developing world. It's almost an undeclared war on the poor. Religion is truly the opiate of the masses of the subcontinent. They fight over imaginary beings while the corrupt are squeezing the very life blood out of them. They are willing to die for their religion but are not willing to fight for a revolution that would truly bring some socio-economic change in their lives.

The last time (during the earthquake) when India provided relief material, apparently the Pakistani authorities tore away the made in India tags and then distributed the goods. If the people/authorities had the time and money to spare to do such things i am sure they have the time and money to help their own brtheren. Again this is something that was in the indian newspapers a few days back, don't remember which one, i follow quite a few of em, and again i don't really trust all details given by the "media", but there is no smoke without fire and there were no denials on this report, so am going with it. On the other hand, humanity is in need and they ought to be helped, no matter how many vested interests are there in between, i would say even if one life was saved and one child's future was secured, all the money in the world would be worth it.

all Pakistanis respect you guys in extending moral help in times of crisis.

More than moral help, hopefully. There should be more monetary contribution coming as more people understand the magnitude of the disaster. Individual contributions will usually be routed through aid agencies like Unicef, Oxfam, the Red Cross, etc., so they will probably become anonymous, but what matters is that they reach the people in need. I hope we are in time to save lives. The little ones are going through a particularly hard time. Regards, Ganesh Prasad

I am literally weeping right now while writing this . When i feel so bad when i could not eat for one time due to some meetings. How bad those people and small children would have been feeling who have not eaten for many days and are still not sure when will they get anything to eat. Recent reports say that the Government of India is ready and willing to offer a lot more provided the Govt. of Pakistan is willing to accept it. There is a National Disaster Management Agency in India that has lot of resources at its disposal specifically to deal with such major catastrophes and these can be used to help Pakistan too said an official and they are willing to route the help through UN if Pakistan is unwilling to accept aid directly. Common people of Pakistan should not suffer due to the bad relations between governments. I pray for the well-being of flood victims.

I request Indian Government to offer more support to Pakistani people. Also this will help in hormonizing our relationship with Govt. of Pakistan and building up the peace process in Indian sub continent. Indian Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh has asked Pakistan during India's Independence Day speech not to allow Pakistan's terrority to be used by the terrorists in future, although Pakistan's terrority was never used in the past against India at any time. Perhaps India did not do so earlier or offer more because of the bad experience of 2005, when Indian aid for the AJK earthquake was not well received by the Pakistani government. Anyway, we need to put these behind us and take steps to better relations between our countries. We are neighbours and need to be good neighbours to each other. Apart from official aid, Indians should also help our Pakistani brethren at an individual level. I have made a humble contribution through Oxfam. Instead of embarking on the space program & offering aid to flood-stricken Pakistan, India should spend this money for the betterment of its own people. India's taxpayers are NOT paying taxes and working hard just so their hard earned money is given to the very country that has carried out so many attacks against our citizens. Govt of India Should offer more, You might have differences with Pak Govt, But Pakistani people are our brothers and sisters.
