They linked the increase in crime in Karachi to the halt in operations against the group.

KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) representatives in the National and Sindh Assembly issued statements criticising the “increased activity” of the banned Peoples Amn Committee (PAC).

They linked the increase in crime in Karachi to the halt in operations against the group. In statements issued on two consecutive days, the representatives alleged that “the city was being held hostage by notorious Amn Committee and other ancillary groups”.

The party MPAs have asked for ‘exemplary punishment’ to be given to PAC members found involved in criminal activities, blaming “unseen powers” who wanted to destabilise economic activity in the city.

The MNAs said that the lack of effective action by law enforcement agencies was “criminal negligence”, also alleging that “a large number of MQM workers had fallen victim because of this negligence”.
