Chief Justice summons his son on reports of financial impropriety
Malik Riaz Hussain is the chief of Bahria Town. Dr Arsalan Iftikhar is the Chief Justice's son.
A notice has also been sent to the Attorney General of Pakistan
The case is due to be heard on Wednesday June 6, 2012 (today) by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry himself.
The Chief Justice had taken a suo motu notice of the reports circulating and has summoned the two men allegedly involved in the matter.
Express News correspondent Faisal Shakeel reported that according to sources, the reports on which the suo motu was taken suggest that Dr Iftikhar had taken between Rs300-400 million from Malik Riaz. Shakeel said that the impression given by some of these reports was that the sum was being exchanged on behalf of the Chief Justice for disposing off cases pending before the Supreme Court.
Shakeel clarified that the case at this point in time is not against any one and once hearings start on Wednesday, would seek to establish the authenticity of the reports.

CJ himself asked his son to appear before the court means a lot. I think it is fair enough if he himself is part of the bench . By the book it might not sound right but, If he refers this matter to his subordinates ,then people will say how can they go against their boss son . I think that's great if he himself is part of the bench, which finds his son guilty and punishes him . That will really bring a much needed change in PAkistan. that will simply mean that every one has to pay for their wrong doings . That will send a very clear message that justice prevails At present there are so many people who are dealing with the sacrifice of their dear ones at Siachin. If CJ's son is guilty and if that is proved in the court and he faces the consequences of his wrong doing that will set in motion a change which might be irreversible.

For all those who are crying conflict of interest I would like to say that conflict of interest comes into action when the matter is of giving a benefit to someone like awarding a property or a project. In this case, Justice Iftikhar's decision to preside the bench is most appropriate so that the world would be able to see if justice is handed out to his son or not. Had the case been heard by a fellow judge, and any concession had been given, every one would have shouted fould play.In my opinion this is a wise dcision by all accounts. Lets just wait for the outcome and not jump guns.

CON flict of interest
conflict of interest, honesty and law is applicable to PPP. when it comes to other people then it is hallal. 300-400 millions must have been visible in home.

those who are talking of conflict of interest should read history when the holy prophet said that I would have reprimanded my daughter if she was presented before me for the theft. Secondly the very fact that CJ has taken a suo moto should stop criticism against him. Who else in this country would do that.
Must be an error in reporting. Our CJ cannot be so naive that he would examine his own son's statement. Maybe he is just confused .But, we hope he corrects his position and step away from this case, to allow another judge to take charge. ps: First order of business. Put all parties concerned on ECL

Little history will help put things in perspective; It was CJ himself who wrote an order to admit his son Arsalan having only 639 and overall "C" grade in F.Sc. into Bolaan Medical Collage without merit (minimum 750). In 2005 he was appointed as demonstrator in IPH Quetta, later transferred to Health Department to post which was not there, Later to FIA, promoted out of turn to grade 18, transferred to Police without passing any exam from Public service Commission, must remember that he failed 3 exams from CSS. Why has he not summoned the FIA to register an FIR to start investigation and to seek a report why the investigation has not already been started.

In Pakistan we have no such precedent before.In simple words Justice is justly represented blind, because she sees no difference in the parties concerned. She has but one scale and weight, for rich and poor, great and small. Mr CJ you see The most reasonable man always manages, when he pulls the trigger, to become a dispenser of justice. And in Pak at least we will have justice at highest level.

I think this is a larger conspiracy against any big fish(may be Zardari or Gilani) not against "Chief Justice of Pakistan". Whispers triggered by Shaheen Sehabahi and Ansar Abbassi . Now they can glorify judiciary and malign the government more emphatically. There is a suspicious character in this case and that is Malik Riaz. I am sure Malik Riaz at this stage cannot play on behalf of Zardari. So we can conclude that strings are attached somewhere else. CJP take good and calculated move to save his integrity. Iftikhar ch. should not sit on the bench. It is against all norms of justice. Now that all judges speak in same voice, let parliament, FIA or NAB probe this case.
So Malik Riaz hasnt seen the inside of a courtroom for a raft of landgrabbing cases, kidnapping a NADRA mobile team, assaulting police officers.......but, when the circus comes to town, hes summoned?

Conflict of interest is there from the start. The chief justice should recuse himself from herding the case.

Yet another populist stunt by the PCO CJ as if he has not much to do. Who has heard that with dozens of judges in the SC, the father himself would head the bench? In the world of law it is not conflict of interest! The case is already decided, innocent. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has turned a joke or kangaroo court in the eyes of the world.

Now that is what I would call sign of real justice. It would have been even better if CJ himself is not presiding over the bench taking decision on the issue (since that can potentially create conflict of interest).
Justice for All. it shows Long March was worth it. At the moment we do not have proof, but if its true that PPP planned this plan, they are doomed. Cj will rise up more as a national hero. It will prove just like Allah says in Quran,
