In a case that could send shockwaves through the power corridors of Pakistan, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, while taking suo motu notice on reports of financial corruption against his own son, has summoned the attorney general of Pakistan, Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz and his son, Arsalan Chaudhry, to appear before the apex court.
Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took notice of rumours that had begun to appear on the media that his son had received Rs300 to Rs400 million and lavish foreign tours from the Bahria Town chairman in questionable ‘business deals’ – but why he had taken the money is unclear.
Some reports allege that Arsalan Chaudhry had taken the money and promised the business tycoon that all corruption cases against him would disappear.
Justice Chaudhry, while taking notice of the corruption allegation, summoned the attorney general to appear before the court, with the two alleged perpetrators. He asked them to appear in “open court at 9.30 am” with their replies and explanations.

This is the best example set by CJ. His decision to challenge any decision is a new way forward for justice. If Riaz Malik believes to be innocent he should be open and transparent into his dealings. We will find out who is behind this act and the real criminals. God Bless you CJ!
Infact, this is a very sad news because our politicians aren't only corrupt but also don't have moral character. This's very below the belt. For their sake, they have started this politics.
Now the ball is in the court of CJ. Let him prove now that no one is beyond rule of law. This story does not seem to be baseless because corruption is rife all over.
Gilani is allegedly behind this conspiracy to take revenge of his own sons. Mr Arsalan, you have disappoimted us, your honesty should have been your contribution towards your father's great cause
attorney general has rightly objected on sitting of c.j. in his son's case - but as according to plato 'king makes no mistake'... matter went on........
CJ took many bold decisions but were never implemented by the corrupt rulers. Lets hope for the best.
setting example of khilafat times- the only honest man of the county.....chaudhry al iftikhar
CJ should not be hearing this case. He should step down and ask someone else to head the bench.
This is going to be a historical decision...
Just God Bless CJ of Pakistan.
Justice Chaudhry must resign in order to prevail justice !
@kapt slim: He should recuse himself from the case. There is a clear and evident conflict of interest when he sits on the bench. Now even if his son is acquitted because he is truly not guilty, people will always have a question mark.
A very good and positive step...
Whatever happens next, simply this move in itself is unprecedented in Pakistan. There is still some hope left.
what do u call it? publicity stunt! ?
And that's what we expect from him!
its the test of your justice...........Mr. chief justice
For those who think Court is biased to any specific political party.
Allah ki Lathi Be Awaz hot hy. PM Gilanis son is implicated in corruption cases, to get the PM, and CJ become party with other side, to punish him for not accepting him supreme authority, along with army.
Great to know
Long Live the CJ, setting an example for the nation and more so for the rulers who are knee down in corruption along with their family members
Justice will prevail, Inshah Allah
A brave step by Chief Justice. If he convicts his own son, he would be the best judge in our history filled with dishonesty.
Not guilty, my son.
this can well be a new beginning for Pakistan. and if any favors given to his son, would be the beginning of an inevitable End!
Unfortunately this issue is blown out of context. His son may have entered into some business venture etc but if the same is legal as citizen of Pakistan he is entailed to enter into any legal trade or profession.
Supreme Court is one institution that people of Pakistan trust and in fact this is their last hope. Do not spread false news- please
I wish my father was CJ too. I could get away with anything.
