Gayle last appeared for the West Indies in the 2011 World Cup before getting into a dispute with the board. He then appeared in foreign T20 leagues in India, Australia and Bangladesh.
Lendl Simmons is the other notable recall to the ODI squad after he missed the home matches against Australia. Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell also return.
Bravo working hard for strong finish
Batsman Darren Bravo is working hard to eliminate flaws that have dogged him and finish the three-Test series against England strongly.
After a typically flamboyant 66 against Leicestershire, Bravo took stock and said, “It was very important for me to spend some time in the middle. I was happy with my performance, but disappointed with the way it ended.
“I have been working hard in the nets, trying to get my foot closer to the ball, and I executed it nicely and hopefully I can continue from here. I have gotten used to the conditions and now it’s a matter of me capitalising on the starts.” The tour match is a prelude to the third and final Test, starting tomorrow, with the series already sealed in England’s favour after the hosts clinched the opening two Tests.
