Mukhtar reviewed issues related to power loadshedding during the first day of assuming charge. He termed NTDC’s performance against loadshedding as ‘disappointing’ and suspended the MD of the company.
According to sources, Mukhtar has also issued a warning to all officers of the company on the issue.
Meanwhile, during a media talk, Mukhtar said that strict action will be taken against all those who are involved in power theft.
Mukhtar's appointment as the minister for water and power had been announced on Saturday, however he did not assume charge till Monday, owing to the fact that Sunday is a scheduled holiday. Meanwhile, his earlier post of defence minister has been handed over to Naveed Qamar.
According to sources, Mukhtar is expected to bring about some ‘major’ changes, including an overall restructuring of the ministry of water and power as per the directions of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

@Junaid Hamid: Do not talk about other airlines. Talking of AirBlue incident, you can't blame others for your own mistake. It has been proven that you forced 65 years old captain (retired from PIA after reaching age limit) of your aircraf to fly for 16 hours continuously, without a single minute rest. Universally recognized and allowed duty of an airliner is maximum 8 hours in 24 hours. SO whome to blame?
some ripples across- Good act if he really means business
The answer is not a new minister. This is just to fool people before elections. Answer is to bring about real change by voting for Imran Khan
Wow.. a poor performer sacking someone else for poor performance... As Minister of Defence, the 'gentleman' has proved his mettle to such an extent that the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (in his ruling of April 2012) while hearing the petition regarding the ongoing hearing of AirBlue Crash, had to issue a verdict advising him to have moral courage, accept responsibility and voluntarily resign from his post as Minster Defense.
It was during his tenure (CAA comes under MoD) that Pakistani aviation suffered the most. AirBlue, JSAir, Russian cargo plane, BhojaAir are a few examples of fatal accidents. Numerous others are near misses reported in the media during his tenure. Bravo, not even a single person found responsible except the dead pilots or the weather in all the cases.
But, alas, the federal govt comes to the rescue and immediately shifts the 'blue eyed boy' to make a mess in another ministry.
