BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Muhammad Khan Khichi has warned the Bahawalpur Zoo curator to improve the sanitation conditions of the zoo, ensure proper care of animals and birds and the attendance at the staff. The commissioner said this while visiting the zoo on Thursday, where he expressed his dissatisfaction over the zoo conditions. He also took serious notice of over charging at entrance, parking stand and at the zoo canteen. He directed the zoo administration to submit a report in this regard by next week. Also on Thursday, the Environment Department revealed its plans for the environment day activities during the first week of June. The programmes, a department official said, aims to create awareness among the people about the importance of environment and pollution-free surroundings. The Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Environment Department will hold a seminar to mark the day and will also launch a special tree plantation campaign. A walk will also be held from Farid Gate to Chowk Fawara to raise public awareness, and a speech competition at Islamia University to highlight environmental issues.
