Seminar: ‘AJK budget to be people-friendly’

Emphasis will be on ensuring basic facilities such as water, power, health and education to the people.

Ministers of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in a pre-budget seminar on Wednesday vowed to make the budget for the year 2012-13 reflective of the aspirations of the people.


The speakers said that the emphasis will be on ensuring basic facilities such as water, power, health and education to the people, and efforts will be made to explore and enhance the resources of AJK to build a self-reliant economy. One of the major projects for the upcoming budget is on increasing the capacity of hydropower generation sector by up to 15,000 megawatts, they said.

The ministers said that besides promoting industrialisation and introducing solar energy and bio-gas systems, the government has also devised a plan to improve AJK’s tourism sector.

The speakers included Housing and Physical Planning Minister and Budget Committee Chairman Chaudhry Pervez Ashraf, Minister for Electricity Chaudhry Arshad Hussain, Minister for Rehabilitation Abdul Majid Khan.
