“This country (Pakistan) has made huge sacrifices and has made huge contributions in the struggle against terrorism. This should be recognised by the international community and Pakistan deserves whole-hearted support from the international community,” said Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.
The top Chinese diplomat is leading a high-level delegation including senior intelligence officials to Pakistan at a time when relations between Islamabad and Washington are at their lowest ebb.
Yang met President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and held formal talks with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar. He is also scheduled to meet Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today.
At a joint news conference with his Pakistani counterpart, the Chinese foreign minister threw his country’s weight behind Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity and dignity.
Without referring to the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and the United States, he pointed out that partnership between Pakistan and China had become ever more important due to recent international developments.
“Against the backdrop of the evolving international situation, it is all the more important for us that Pakistan and China have a strong partnership,” he added. He said the purpose of his visit was to further enhance long-term strategic partnerships between the two countries.
Diplomatic sources revealed that although China has backed Pakistan in the face of its strained ties with the US, it has advised Islamabad to avoid a confrontational path.
This was also reflected in a statement issued by the Prime Minister House after the meeting between Prime Minister Gilani and the Chinese delegation. The statement quoted the Chinese foreign minister as saying that Beijing had encouraged both India and the US to improve ties with Pakistan and accept its legitimate demands. In heading you written "Pak" only instead Pakistan, correct it.
@Raj - USA: You made some sensible comments but you didn't recognizing the fact that US is working on a Colonial Type Era. Where all the Asian Nation is under their control Afghanistan is the first step. In my opinion India in this region is now making their policies like US told them so or they are being opportunist.. India is always opposing Pakistan. Why don't we made a Asian Union treaty so the outsiders Europeans or US doesn't interfering in this region.???
@Fayyaz: At one time, Pakistan had very good relationship with USA. However, the Army decides the sort of relationship Pakistan should have with any country. The Army restricted its relationship with USA to Military equipments only. They did not care for joint ventures in industries or technology transfers in other fields. Who allowed US to use Pakistan's air bases for Drone strikes. It was the Army as they thought they could get the Drone technology from USA which did not work out. Who created the fiasco during the Kerry Lugar Bill? It was the Army again, as they wanted to secure the aid for themselves. Pakistan was asking for nuclear technology to solve its energy problems today. It never asked for solar or wind technology that could be implemented quickly as compared to nuclear technology. It has not asked for shale gas technology from US also. China is a major exporter of solar products with advanced technology in this field. They have set up solar projects worldwide, including India but have not done any in Pakistan as Pakistan itself is not interested. Pakistan's relationship with China is also restricted to military field. This is the reason, Pakistan has not benefitted from its relationship with any country.
World will only recognise Pakistan's efforts once it puts it's own house in order. It is on the verge of becoming a failed state
it is one of the most important visits of this year to pakistan, followed by russian president. i am sure, US is out and now pakistan is firmly with china and russia block. New power play is emerging. The world is polorized in two blocks again and it will be evident over time. 20 years till WW3 and countdown has begun.

It would be a lot more credible if China steps up and put its money where its mouth is. After all, Pakistan plunged into the current spate of terror attacks inside Pakistan after Musharraf attacked Lal Masjid to please the Chinese. That and the crackdown on Uighur Muslim Jihadists on behalf of China was a huge favor done to china by Pakistan. Shouldn't china reward Pakistan with payment of $3B a year now to replace the declining American freebies?
How very very very successful. Exceppt for crass monetary commitments.
From China always come words...and nothing tangible...Hope we were in good terms with US..the US is a friend of friends...and whoever has allied itself with US has reached the pinnacle of progress and prosperity...few examples being South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Israel and many more...
Another "made in Pakistan" news article? --- like many previous articles you don't find mention in any other newspaper - including the Chinese newspapers.
That there were a couple of senior intelligence officials in the Chinese delegation showed Beijing's concern about the ethnic tensions in the remote Xinjiang province on its western border. China accused Islamist extremists sowing unrest and infiltrating in a region inhabited by ethnic Uyghurs, who feel discriminated by the Han-Chinese.The Uyghurs are a mainly Sunni Muslim group found throughout Xinjiang, a vast and arid territory that straddles the ancient Silk Road and forms China's western borders with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan.
"China urges world to recognise Pak efforts" Hmmmm. World has already recognised pak efforts long back, where these Chinese were sleeping all this time ?
@Aarvey,india: We are living in the era of one super power and India has become little brother of Mighty Super Power whatever you both say is tight now. Even genuine sacrifices will go down the drain rather will become liability as His master’s voice is always correct.
India’s best friends of the past (USSR) was defeated by sacrifices of many nations including Pakistan in the forefront. While India at the time was involved in underground efforts by collaborating with Israel reaping all economic benefits accordingly, who can deny Israely and Indian intelegence allaince.
A Peshawary
You jail Dr. Shakil Afridi and claim that enough has been done to combat terrorism ? lol
@sunder khan Afridi: This is the same line you used with USA-Pak earlier. Now look who is groaning aloud..
As a Pakistani, I wish to express my profound gratitude to the Chinese leadership for for their unwavering support on all important issues. Long live Pak - China friendship.
@Raj - USA: We know Indians always consider Pak - China enduring and time tested friendship as pain in their .................... So the pain has to be accompanied with some loud groaning.
again why are there so many indians commenting here?
It's entertaining that whoever was crying about it actually believed such a statement carried weight with anyone but Pakistan.
China gives only moral support to Pakistan and nothing beyond which is evident from its sound advice to Pakistan not to continue its confrontation policy with US which has resulted in stoppage of aid and thus making it amply clear to Pakistan it would not extend any financial help in eventuality of curtailing of aid by US now and future as well.
Urging nations is "free of charge" ............China can urge as much as it like, how many urges by China have ever been given attention by world community?? .......
@mujahid: Yes peace in Afghanistan means acesses to minerals in afghanistan,so pakistani co-operate with USA is what the chinese saying
What he means is "US please continue aid so that we dont have to give anything"
If Pakistan has made genuine sacrifices, the world surely would sit up and take notice. Perhaps a good start would be action against the Haqquani group and against Hafeez Saeed's LeT/JuD combine. Demanding or requesting the world to take notice is not the right approach.
Army chief meeting a foreign minister? This can happen only in Pakistan.
After all it is a honor to meet the de-facto ruler.
Who on the earth is talking what? How do you judge mutual relations based on respect for each other. Are we missing on some thing, common sense perhaps?
Not a single sentence attributed to Ms Khar. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ She seems to have discovered the virtue of silence after her "very very successful" chicago trip statement.
What Pakistan needs immediately is $1 billion for its budget before June 1. China should give this to Pakistan, may be as a loan to be repaid only from the aid and coalition support fund it may receive from US. If no such funds are received from US, China should treat it as a non-repayable aid. Pakistan has made huge sacrifices for China and given it preferential treatment in Baluchistan mines. Importantly, Pakistan has given China huge tracts of strategic land in Askai Chin and Karakoram area to China, even at the cost of weakening its position against India on its claim for Kashmir. This is the time Pakistan needs China. Will China live up to it rather than just limiting to nice diplomatic statements ? China should follow its own advise first and recognize the huge sacrifices Pakistan has made for China. Pakistan has not made such sacrifices for any other country.
Is there any economical reason for this visit? I mean about chinese companies or chinese projects in pakistan.
problem:- many countries (?) accusing that pakistan supports terrorism and much of the terror groups have some link to pakistan. china:- we will support you. but stay away from us
We love you china :)
hmmm .. what a combination !!!
Like Pakistanis, Chinese are not trustworthy. Both use a different set of words for different audiences.
