LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday issued notices to the Pakistan Railways general manager (GM) and five other officers on a contempt of court petition filed by a retired technician. The technician, Sadiq Ali, submitted that he had obtained a stay order from the LHC against withdrawal of a residential quarter from him. But, he said, railways authorities had got the quarter evacuated forcibly. His counsel stated that Sadiq Ali retired from service a year ago and had a one-and-half year grace period to evacuate the railways quarter. He said that the quarter was allotted to another employee two months ago. He said the petitioner was granted a stay order on May 21 but railways authorities along with a magistrate and police expelled him forcibly on the night of May 25. The counsel requested that the court initiate contempt of court proceedings against the railways’ GM and other responsible authorities for ignoring the stay order issued by the court. Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali after hearing the arguments issued notices to the respondents for June 17.
