KARACHI: Chief selector Iqbal Qasim has labelled spinners as key in Sri Lanka as Pakistan prepares for its tour-opening match – the first of the two Twenty20s – on Friday.

“Our spinners will play a key role as they’ve done time and time against in the last two years,” Qasim told The Express Tribune. “It’s never easy to play Ajmal and he’ll be more difficult to counter due to spin-friendly pitches in Sri Lanka. We have a dynamic Twenty20 squad so hopefully Pakistan will start on a high under the leadership of Mohammad Hafeez. A win in the first match will set the tone for the rest of the tour.”

Meanwhile, Qasim added that he had spoken to Director International Cricket Affairs Intikhab Alam about the inclusion of Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Talha in the contracts list. The Pakistan under-19 squad, for the World Cup, will be announced next week, added the chief selector.
