The committee, which met under Chairman Ghulam Mujadid Isran, decided to give Chaudhry Nisar a ‘last chance’ to appear before them on June 14, and warned that legal action could be initiated against him under Sindh Assembly Privileges Act, 1975 if he did not turn up.
The video of Chaudhry Nisar’s press conference, where he had reportedly ridiculed the traditional Sindhi cap and Ajrak, was also screened.
Chaudhry Nisar had said, “They (ruling leaders) wear Sindhi cap and Ajrak whenever a difficult time faces the country to gain sympathy of (Sindhi) people, while President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed ‘bouncers’ in the Sindh Government.”
Committee Chairman Isran said notices were sent to Chaudhry Nisar through NA Secretary, however, he did not turn up in any of the previous meetings. He observed that the committee didn’t want to take any decision in haste, announcing of giving ads in newspapers to notify Chaudhry Nisar to appear before the committee on June 14 at 2pm.
He warned that Chaudhry Nisar could be sentenced up to six months or face fine of Rs5000 or both under Section-14(1) of Sindh Assembly Privileges Act, 1975 if he continued neglecting the committee directives.
Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, who is an ex-officio member of the committee, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Ahsan Iqbal and Pervaiz Rasheed had observed that Chaudhry Nisar did not speak against Sindhi culture, and screening of the press conference has been arranged to inform the PML-N about it, he added.
He said if the prime minister of Pakistan can make it to the Supreme Court then Chaudhry Nisar should also appear before the house committee.
“He is trying to treat Sindh people as his slaves. Selfless are those who fled the country,” Soomro remarked. “We are giving ads in newspapers for his necessary appearance so that people may know Chaudhry Nisar is a proclaimed offender,” he added.
The law minister further appealed to the chairman to give Chaudhry Nisar the last chance to appear and send him a notice through the Speaker National Assembly.
MPA Imran Zafar Laghari, who is a joint mover of the motion along with minority MPA Saleem Khursheed Khokhar, criticised Chaudhry Nisar and said he uttered remarks against the august assembly that passed the Pakistan resolution in 1940.
“He dubbed Sindh Assembly members ‘bouncers’ – a slang expression – which has extremely offensive meaning. Besides he ridiculed traditional Sindhi topi and hurt the sentiments of Sindhi people.”
Imran also appealed to the committee chairman to take a final decision on a privilege motion against Chaudhry Nisar.

Sindhis love their culture, history and language and we are proud of it. But we neither allow any one to criticise our culture based on personal prejudice but nor we like PPP to exploit our culture as shield to save their skin. How many people in Sindh have risen against the statement of Chaudhary Nisar, NONE! why because, people know that Ch. Nisar's intention and statement was not against Sindhi culture and it was taken out of context. PPP is busy in protecting terrorists of Karachi and they have worked against the interests of Sindh, atleast PMLN workers are trying to highlight Sindh's case.
@ nadeem soomro
dear..........dont be so naive, zardari or for that matter anybody else cannot 'possess' sindhi culture. its the behaviour of any person which is being talked about. the reality is that politicians generally seek shelter in dramatisation rather than serving people. if that was not case the MPAs of sindh assembly would have been making efforts to serve the people of their province in a better way, rather than worrying about so called privilige. where is their privilige when killings happen in karachi. where is their privilige when sindh remains awashed in floods for months and months.
If everyone knows that when Zardari faces tough time, he starts wearing Sindhi Topi. My question from all the people of Punjab and other political parties, specially Chaudhry Nisar is that, if you know that Sindhis will not bear any kind of criticism on their culture, then why do they criticize on that (Sindhi Culture) ? You all are allowed to criticize Zardari, as it is your democratic right but never ever try to criticize the culture he possesses, because no one will be allowed to criticize Sindhi Culture.
Should NOT go. Should not play into the hands of ethnic politics , be it Sindh card by Zardari and lot, Seriki by Gilani and his sons , or the latest potohar slogan raised by Javed Hashmi in Pindi ...
PML N should remain a class above these ethnic politicians and hate mongers.
I am against PMLn and i live in Sindh but why should Nisar appear in sindh assembly when he is member of NATIONAL ASSEMBLY and not sindh assembly?
The word topi drama was just a comment and did not mean to insult or rudicule the sindhi topi or culture why can't PPP's MPA act in a mature way so that people could take them seriously??
PML-N doesn't give a damn what people of other provinces think. They had defied the court orders from the Sindh Supreme Court and employed a proclaimed offender in nothing but as the prosecutor general of the province. No wonder why the law and order situation in Punjab is the worst. This time too, their attitude is the same.
These public servants have not learned to respect the law yet. Who cares if he gave the statement or not. He is being called. He should go. Period.
We need security, Education, Health, Employment, Impartial Justice, No loadsheding, No Corruption, Accountability of all, Prosperous Pakistan. People of Pakistan are fed up more from these types of tactics of the elite class of the country. This is my personal observation that the whole situation of the country is at worse position from Chitral to Bolan. So we should made this country more prosperous then culture will be alived otherwise when God forbid there would be no country what we will do with our cultures?
This is quite amazing and also useless efforts to make the whole nation more foolish. If Ch. Nisar had insulted Sindhi Culture which I am sure that will never but again how many protectors of sindhi culture are sitting in National Assembly? They should move there in Islamabad against Ch. Nisar because the same committee is existing in National Assembly too. Every culture of Pakistan is respectable for every Pakistani. Somro Sb, Israni Sb and other Members of the august house should search out the ways that how innocent people of the sindh would be protected from target killing. they are wasting their times in these petty issues.
I suggest the PPP committee members keep their hats on. What Nisar said, if he said what he said, then there is nothing wrong with it. It was meant against the rulers who coincedentally have a Sindhi President, and that is surely not the culture.
I condemn his statement. Although, I'm a punjabi but I love Sindhi culture and Sindhi people. They are simple and kind people.
These privilege committee of sindh assembly is a real topi drama. The remarks in inverted commas by ch. nisar had nothing derrogatory about sindhi culture.
