Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Gilani said, “We want free, fair, transparent elections in the country and this would be the first ever government in the history of Pakistan which will ensure a smooth transition of power.”
When asked whether the upcoming government is of his choice, Gilani stated that the government has been fighting elections "without any support," and that they have never had to lean on anyone as a crutch.
He further stated that whenever caretaker setups have been made, they were against his government.
Responding to questions about re-opening of Nato supply routes, the prime minister said that a decision will be made when the time is right.
"This will be in line with Pakistan's national interests and will only be made once negotiations have concluded," stated Gilani.
