Convocation: Going fearlessly in the directions of their dreams

To impart quality education, universities should serve as centres of wisdom and excellence in every field, be it academic of extracurricular. This was stated by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar at the sixth convocation of Hazara University at Dhodial, Mansehra, on Monday.


In all 600 graduates; five got PhD degrees; 30 were honoured with MPhil, and the rest bagged Masters and Bachelors of Honour degrees in more than 24 disciplines of science and arts. Meanwhile, 75 amongst them were honoured with gold medals for achieving distinctions in their respective disciplines.

Naveed Khan was declared the best graduate for the academic year 2010 while Muhammad Nawaz was given the same title from amongst the students of private educational institutions affiliated to the university.

Also the chancellor of the university, Kausar earlier inaugurated a model of solar hybrid car, a project of the physics department. He praised the spirits and capabilities of the team of students and faculty members and announced a cash prize of Rs50,000 for them.

“Though resources are being given to the educational sector, yet they are far from adequate.” To this end, he said that the government is mindful of the pending construction projects and the pressing financial needs of the university and he will extend support in overcoming them.

The governor said that they had joined the ranks of the privileged class of the society, which comprises only one per cent amongst the youth group of the age of 17 to 24 years.

With this unique honour, he added, they also owe a lot to their parents, family members and the nation at the large. He advised them to be confident, upright, courageous and devoted to the professions they have chosen.

The vice chancellor of the university, earlier welcoming the governor, said that the enrolment of the university in its three campuses has already crossed 9,000 students with 350 faculty members including 100 PhD scholars.

Seven more PhD scholars, he added, will be shortly joining the university after completing their studies abroad while 20 are in the process to leave for doctoral-level studies in near future.
