Second opinion: Wassan returns but still on leave

KARACHI:

The ailing Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan returned on Monday but has not said when he will get back to duty.

Talking to the media at Karachi airport, Wassan said that before his one-month medical leave expired on May 25, he had sent an application to the chief minister, seeking a 15-day extension. He said that his leave would end on June 8 but he has not yet decided about going back to work. “I am still not feeling well. I will get an opinion from my doctors before joining duty,” he said.

When asked about the recent violence in Karachi, Wassan said that he had no idea what had been going on.

Wassan had left Karachi for London on April 25 amid speculation that he had been removed.  But the chief minister, who holds the charge of the home ministry, refuted the reports and assured the media that Wassan would come back to work. Sources said that President Zardari was not happy with Wassan’s performance and during a meeting at Bilawal House had criticised him for the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi.
