PESHAWAR: Minister for Information Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Mian Iftikhar Hussain has asked the government to pay full attention to the destruction caused in the province by the floods.

“We say that 95 per cent aid of the total foreign assistance will go to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as 95 per cent of the destruction occurred in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and five percent in whole Pakistan”, he told a private news channel.

He said that he appealed to the centre to pay attention to all the provinces but give special attention and priority to K-P as it deserves the most.  He said that there are many places where access for helicopters is also difficult, so it is not possible to provide relief goods in such areas.

“When the climate improves, it will be our first priority to provide them food”, he said.

He maintained that, on both the local and official level, the provincial government has prepared aid supply routes which used alternative
transportation means, including the use of donkeys and horses.

Meanwhile, the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has announced a comprehensive package for compensating people affected by the devastating floods. Under the package, compensation would be given to those who lost their relatives, were injured, were owners of fully or partially damaged, or those whose businesses were affected, said the provincial minister for information.

The provincial government has also decided to hold a meeting of leaders of all political parties regarding the flood situation.

The leaders will be apprised about the measures taken so far by the government and a future strategy would be prepared in the light of recommendations made during the meeting, he added.
