Cricket: Afghanistan Youth cruise into last-16

KARACHI: Afghanistan Youth made it to the prequarter-finals of the Pakistan Champions League following an impressive five-wicket win over Landhi Friends.  

The visitors dismissed the local side for 143 with Abdul Qadir and Amir Mangal claiming two wickets apiece. Mujahid Hussain stood out for Landhi Friends with a 26-ball 44. In reply, Mohammad Shahzad hit a crucial 40 as Afghanistan Youth chased down the target with two balls to spare.

Hong Kong, who won three out of four group matches, are the other touring side besides the unbeaten UAE to reach the pre-quarters. Meanwhile, Pak Korangi sealed their berth after outclassing Kuwait by eight wickets, while Faisalabad entered the knock-out stage following a six-run win over Pakistan CC. Vital Five, Korangi Alfalah, Peshawar and Nazimbad are the other teams to advance in the tournament.
