Speaking at the Convention Centre in Islamabad, at a teacher’s gathering, Gilani stated that if former speaker of the National Assembly Maulvi Tamizuddin’s plea to the court would have been heard, Pakistan's fate would have been different today.
Gilani further stated that even though education has become a provincial matter after the 18th Amendment, the Federal Government will not remain negligent.
His speech was met with cheers and sloganeering by the teachers present on the occasion.
Two days before the possible expiry of a 30-day deadline to decide on the fate of the prime minister, the National Assembly speaker dismissed bids to disqualify Yousaf Raza Gilani following his conviction by the Supreme Court in a contempt case last month.
“No question of disqualification of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani from being a member arises under clause (2) of Article 63 of the Constitution,” stated Dr Fehmida Mirza, in her five-page ruling released on Thursday.

@rana: Supreme Court is not corrupt. SC gave a very wise verdict by not disqualifying him rather the decision was left on the parliament. First, because by disqualifying him SC would have made another PPP martyrdom that might have resulted in making further jahil PPP voters. Secondly it wanted to show to the people of Pakistan how corrupt people they have elected.
Friends of Democratic Pakistan would not allow the same PCO SC to once again undo the verdict of the people and election results. Somebody has to stand up to the PCO judges and generals, and it is you madam speaker. You would live in history like the dissenting judges against Munir and Anwarul Haq. Kudos to the elected speaker of the elected parliament for using her powers independently not like 17 dummies.
If this is democracy.. then we don't want it. I'll be happy with dictatorship. Thank you
@Pakistani Hindu - Very well said !!
Jaisi jamuriat waise h faisle. I must ask our corrupt Supreme Court, why didnn't They disqualify him in their decision. They r also making fool. They have 4 years to make these decisions.
Loyalties to party not to Pakistan.
Let them eat Democracy.
“Democracy” is the best revenge & u guys are making SURE
Victory for democracy.. loss for the nation, disgrace for the state.
Mr Gillani you and your team are fighting for same cause "Corruption". I already know about the what step will take Dr Fehmida Mirza. I think you should proud for the Target Killings, Petrol Price, Drone Attacks, Bank Loans for IMF, This is not your Country and You know once you come to road without protocol people will gonna treat like a Lamers.. What will happened in the day of Judgement in Front of God??? You forgot you took the Oath to perform their duty in right manner but you don't.
Someone should hand our 'Prime Minister' a first year book so he can understand what a democracy really is. Worst Government EVER!
I'm getting sick of the word "Democracy".... PPP has destroyed the importance of this word..
Mr Gilani is certainly upholding the highest tradition of democracy by not resigning after being convicted by the highest court of the country with National Assembly members backing him for the same!!! Pakistan is setting some new democratic norms which are not followed in any part of the world. No wonder that the country was ruled by the military for thirty years since true democracy was never practised in Pakistan till date.
Any decision that goes in your favor is a victory for 'democracy' and any crime committed by you and your family/party that makes headlines is an attack on democracy?!
VICTORY for you corrupt people Loss for us all Citizens can he even spell the word Democracy ?
