Gas theft: SNGPL recovers Rs2.2b in dues

SNGPL recovered Rs2.2 billion after conducting 16,000 raids at various localities in the region.

LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) recovered Rs2.2 billion during April 2011 and April 2012, after conducting 16,000 raids at various localities in the region. However, only sixty FIRs could be registered against gas pilferers under the 462 Gas Act, as the law was enacted in December 2011. Prior to its promulgation, there was no provision in Pakistani law to deal with the problem of gas theft.
