Football: Slow progress in Brazil World Cup

BRASILIA: The Brazilian government announced that there was no cause for alarm despite the fact that nearly 40 per cent of projects are yet to start in preparation for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil. The country plans to spend $13 billion on 101 projects to build or modernise stadiums, airports, roads and public transport ahead of the World Cup, but work has begun on only 60 of them, the government said. “We have an eye on the current state of the projects and another on their completion,” said Rebelo. “The projects are on schedule. The government is optimistic and confident about completing them on time.”
