The 21st Azlan Shah Cup will start in Malaysia tomorrow with participants hoping to get in shape ahead of the London Olympics that starts in July.
Seven hockey teams, including Pakistan, India, South Korea, Great Britain, New Zealand, Argentina and hosts Malaysia, will be taking part in the 10-day event.
Pakistan will take on Argentina in the opening match of the tournament followed by New Zealand taking on India and Korea pitted against the hosts in the last match of the day.
The Greenshirts will then take on New Zealand on Sunday followed by a match against Korea the following day.
The national team, led by penalty-corner specialist Sohail Abbas, will tackle the hosts on May 30 before the crunch match against archrivals India on May 31. Their last match will be against Great Britain on June 2. Pakistan won the tournament in 2003, having also triumphed twice before as well. They finished second behind Australia in last year’s edition.

strong textBest wishes to Pakistani hockey team. This tournament could really uplift the performance of the team as they have to play against the top quality sides in the olympics. If they can prove over here (at the zlan shah) and they perform well, I think nobody can stop us from clinching the gold medal at the olympics. Inshallah! Go Paki Lions!
