Sheesha Smoke: Cafe owners move High Court to stop crackdown

Petitioners argued that the use of sheesha was not harmful for health, nor was it a prohibited product

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court will hear arguments on July 11 on whether the ban on smoking in public places applies to cafes and restaurants serving sheesha.

The court issued these instructions on Monday during the hearing of a petition filed by owners of sheesha cafes seeking to restrain the city government from acting on plans to stop them from serving sheesha.

The court adjourned till July 11, when lawyers representing the government and sheesha cafes will present their arguments.

The petitioners said that the government was taking coercive measures against the cafes. They argued that the use of sheesha was not harmful for health, nor was it a prohibited product, but the government was taking action against them. The petitioners asked the court to restrain the government from taking action against them.
