House raid: 17 policemen charged with killing farmer

Bahlak police arrest a villager, register case against 37 for ‘resisting raid to recover a stolen buffalo’.

17 police officials, including the Sitiana SHO, have been named in a complaint over a man injured during a police raid on Friday who expired at a hospital on Saturday.


Bahlak police have also registered a case against 37 villagers for resisting the raid and arrested a villager, Muzaffar.

According to the villagers, Sitiana SHO Khalid Gujjar led a police contingent, included Investigation Incharge Khalid Hussain and ASI Tariq, in a raid at the house of Zulfiqar, a resident of Chak 604-GB in the Bahlak police area to recover a stolen buffalo.

The raid followed interrogation of one Hafeez under arrest for the theft.

The resisted police and severaling including Zulfiqar, Mohammad Yar and Bashiran Bibi were beaten up.

Zulfiqar was taken to hospital for the injuries from the beating. He died there on Saturday.

After his death, the family and some other villagers took out a protest rally and blocked Okara Road.

The protestors demanded arrest of the police officers responsible for Zulfiqar’s death.

Allahyar, a relative of the deceased, said that police had beaten them quite brutally.

“None of the police officials have been arrested yet,” he said.

“Police are unwilling to arrest their colleagues.”

He vowed to keep the protest going till arrests were made.

Earlier, Saddar SSP Tauseef Haider had promised action against those responsible.

Bahlak police have since registered a murder case against 17 police officials, including the Sitiana SHO on a complaint by the deceased ‘s son Mohammad Afzal.

However, Bahlak SHO Mohammad Akbar told The Express Tribune that there was no evidence to warrant their arrest.
