ISLAMABAD: The latest exhibit at the Lok Virsa Heritage Museum is a walk through history, with photographs and documents narrating the journey to Pakistan’s independence.

Two hundred rare photographs of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan, and others who struggled for freedom were displayed on 25 panels and 30 coloured blow-ups on panaflex at the exhibition in chronological order starting from 1876 through to 1948.

Those people whose photographs have been exhibited include Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Sir Agha Khan III, Maulana Shibli Nomani, Maulana Nazir Ahmed, Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar, Maulana Shaukat Ali, Allama Iqbal, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, Chaudhry Rehmat Ali and Liaqat Ali Khan, among others.

Rare documents from the archives of all four provinces have been displayed in glass showcases.

These include copies of Dawn newspaper, founded in 1942 by Jinnah, the Simla deputation of the All India Muslim League in 1906, Jinnah’s fourteen points and Allama Iqbal’s address at Allahabad in 1930. Other items include a copy of notes made by Jinnah before discussions with Gandhi in 1938, a famous poem written by Mian Bashir Ahmed ‘Millat Ka Pasban Hai Muhammad Ali Jinnah’ which was read during the 1940 Pakistan Resolution in Lahore, as well as old and rare original miniature paintings.

The exhibition was organised jointly by Lok Virsa and the National Archives of Pakistan. It was inaugurated by Professor Dr Masoom Yaseenzai, Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

Yaseenzai appreciated the efforts of NAP and Lok Virsa in organising and displaying this exhibition. He felt that such representatives of culture played a crucial role in defining our identity.

“This is a joint initiative of NAP and Lok Virsa on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day to pay tribute to the father of the nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other great heroes in our national history who made a significant contribution for the creation of the country,” said Khalid Javaid, Executive Director, Lok Virsa.

Another objective of this exhibit is to familiarise the younger generation of Pakistan with the sacrifices of our great leaders in creating a separate homeland for our people, he added.

The exhibition opened on Tuesday and will continue till August 14 at the Lok Virsa Heritage Museum at Shakarparian.
