ISLAMABAD: Participants at a two-day seminar that started on Friday concluded that green economy is vital for inclusive and sustainable growth. The main objective of the “National Consultation on Green Economy” is to review the preparations for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development to be hosted by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro in June and likely to be attended by more than 130 heads of state and thousands of delegates representing the UN, private business, non-governmental organisations and media. On the first day, participants deliberated on a set of considerations for the Pakistani delegation for the forthcoming Rio+20 Summit as well as ideas stakeholders can put into practice to accelerate sustainable development and poverty eradication. IUCN Vice-President Javed Jabbar said Pakistan is one of the most resilient nations in the world. “We are living in a red zone and there is a dire need of inculcating the green economy concept into our policies.”
