The government has planned to complete 25,000MW green electricity hydro-power projects in the country by the year 2025, said Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani.
Addressing a workshop on ‘Green Economy’ on Friday held by the Ministry of Climate Change in collaboration with Sustainable Development Policy Institute, he said that in the next 12 years the share of hydel power in energy production will be increased from 30% to to 70%.
Durrani said that due to increase in mercury level, glaciers are melting at a faster pace and creating the threat of water shortage.
