Adam Gilchrist reminded fans of his prowess with the bat, hitting a 46-ball 64 to power Kings XI Punjab to a convincing six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

Punjab chased down the modest 121-run target in the 17th over of the innings, keeping them in contention for a play-off slot with their eighth win in 15 matches. The former Australia wicket-keeper put on 51 with Mandeep Singh for the first wicket to give his team a flying start. Despite the dismissals of Singh followed by Nitin Saini and David Hussey, Gilchrist ensured the good work of his bowlers did not go in vain with the unbeaten knock.

Earlier, Dwayne Bravo was the only batsman who offered any resistance to the disciplined Punjab bowlers, top-scoring with 48. Azhar Mahmood, Praveen Kumar and Parwinder Awana all claimed two wickets apiece and did not allow Chennai to post a decent total.
