Behram Khan’s execution: President issues stay order

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari issued a stay order on Thursday for the execution of Behram Khan, a prisoner on death row whose execution was scheduled for May 23.

According to DIG prison Nusrat Mangan, the stay order was received by the jail officials on Thursday morning. The stay order has postponed his hanging till June 30.

Khan was sentenced to death by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in 2003 after he was found guilty of murdering a lawyer Mohammad Ashraf on the premises of the Sindh High Court in April 2003.

Earlier this month, the president had rejected Khan's mercy petition, following which the ATC issued a black warrant for his execution at 4:30am on May 23.
