Gilani was speaking to the media after attending an event organised by the Ministry of Information Technology.
The prime minister had earlier suggested that the government should print currency notes and pour capital into the electricity sector in order to overcome loadshedding.
Gilani, while speaking to the media today, questioned why the provincial governments did not take steps for generating power in their provinces, rather than criticizing the federal government since “there is no restriction to generate independent power in the provinces”.
The prime minister said that the Punjab government did not follow the federal government to observe two weekends because the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wanted to use the issue of load shedding issue to take political advantage.
Reopening NATO supply routes
Gilani said that he has directed all the concerned ministries to finalise the ongoing negotiations with the United States over the reopening of Nato supply routes.
“The negotiations over the resumption of Nato supply routes are underway and will be done soon.”
Answering a question on the formation of a Seraiki province, the prime minister said that it was the desire of the entire Seraiki nation, not just his party and that it will soon be materialized.
He added that some people want him to “go home” prior to the formation of the Seraiki province.
Speaking on the implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict in a contempt of court case against him, the Gilani said, “Law will take its course and it is not the duty of the PML-N to implement court orders.”
“We are not liked by some people and they want to send us home, but they should adopt the legal way to do so,” he maintained.
When asked whether he was considering resigning from premiership, he questioned, “Who should I give my resignation to?”
Gilani further said that the opposition did not accept him as the prime minister, but were willing to sit in the committees formed by him and accepted Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah as head of the parliamentary committee to appoint the chief election commissioner.
He also said that President Asif Ali Zardari will attend the Nato summit in Chicago and that the decision was endorsed by Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) and the federal cabinet.

This Guy Is A Fool There is already no electricity in Pakistan, Summers are coming and people are dieing of heat overnight. he had such a brilliant idea of overcoming this problem and look now, just after one day changes his idea and calls us, the people of Pakistan fools! who stopped the project of kalabagh dam which could have produced electricity to stop unnanounced loadshedding electricity. I say to vote "IMRAN KHAN" in the next elections, he is the only tusted (and untest) guy, everyone else came to power and did nothing, nows the chance to let him come to power and see the changes he makes in Pakistan!
I was present in the cabinet PM Gillani never even suggested to print nots but as I came out I saw breaking news on one TV suggesting that PM Gillani has hinted towards printing Currency, this is absolutely absurd Pakistan is all set to get 2.7 Billion USD and after june will not be cash starved. So another piece of irresponsible media reporting
You want to pay WAPDA bill? Why don't you print money then? Who's stopping you? Provinces don't have electricity? Why don't they make it then? Who's stopping them?
Who can stop Gilani from printing money and raising the dollar to rupee at Pak Rs 100 to $1/- He does not know that this has already created unprecedented inflation in the country. When PPP came to power the ruppe to dollar rate was Rs. 60 to a $ 1. Now it is Rs./ 91 to $ 1/ What a shame on Pakistani economy in the hands of these morons. This Government in the span of four years sent 3 State Bank Governors home, Three Finance Ministers either resigned or left the Government, and so many Finance Secretaries. Have you ever seen so many Economic Managers resigning the position.?
@Meekal Ahmed: In Printing Money he overshot the one he made to CNN Becky Anderson in his interview. he has become the literal Dumb and Dumber of Movie Fame.
Sir, all these people writing against you are jealous of your tremendous popularity, good looks, high Syed pedigree, and imported suits and ties. They are foreign agents of enemy countries.
Do not let these foreign agents and traitors stop your from printing more money. If anyone refuses, fire them like you fired the Defence Secretary to show who is boss. Infact, please start printing 1,000,000 millions rupees note and 10,000 rupees coin (to replace one rupee coin). Then you can get credit for turning all Pakistanis into millionaires and billionaires.
Pervaiz Elahi and the rest of us will elect you ten (10) times in your uniform.
That was, if reported correctly, the dummbest statement that he has ever made.
How about banning Star TV. That should cut down on TV use within the homes?
On a serious note, not given Ghana in Africa have this problem.
Is he still in office?
By printing money, the country would only face high levels of inflation. Where prices are already sky-high do you really want to add to the problem?
I think the best way of overcoming the load shedding problem is to reduce the number of people using electricity. Perhaps have them leave the country.
Use the nato money from reopening the routes to end loadshedding you incompetent fool
Really disappointed that Mr Gilani has taken a u turn from such a brilliant idea which would have made the country self-sufficient in power generation. This idea could have been used for ailing railways and airlines as well and Pakistan would have over-taken its all weather friend and number one enemy and become an economic power in the region.
Really, this PM is incredible and genius.
Print currency to prosperity
Where is State Bank of Pakistan and it's autonomy?
Why you no print more money?
The load shedding issue will be solved if everyone leaves the country. This guy is a genius!
What about Sindh, KP and Balochistan? What are they doing about producing electricity. The PPP is part of the governments in these three provinces. And what about the voices about other new provinces, including Sindh. You have set the ball rolling, but you can't make it stop at your liking.
I forget.... whose govermment killed the Kala Bagh dam? Probably the best and cheapest way of generating electricity.
The problem which he glosses over is that the IPPs burn furnace oil, which we can't afford or gas which we don't have.
What on earth can the provinces do?? Building more furnace oil power plants will only add to the idle capacity we have.
Has he already finished printing enough notes?? Looks like it. Over night job and well done!!
Sir, you are most corrupt, incompetent Convited PM in the history of Pakistan who is very much competent of finding ways how to cheat with public money
Shameless as ever
Yes, please continue blaming each other whilst we all die.
