Case load: LHC asks for 1,013 new judges

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has forwarded a summary to the Punjab government seeking 1,013 new posts in the Punjab district judiciary and an allocation of Rs3.242 billion for these posts in the upcoming budget. The Lahore High Court administration has asked the Punjab government to create 696 new posts for civil judges, costing Rs2.16 billion, and 317 for additional district and sessions judges, costing Rs 1.68 billion. The summary is based on the recommendations made by the Pakistan Law Commission and the judicial policy-making committee set up by the chief justice of Pakistan. According to the summary, the new appointments would reduce the case load on judges from the current rate of 969 per month to around 300 per month, the maximum rate recommended by the Pakistan Law Commission.
