Former umpire Dickie Bird has criticised the use of replays and technology to help the umpires. Bird, who received the OBE from Prince Charles, stepped down in 1996 after a 23-year career as an international umpire and is remembered as one of cricket’s finest umpires. “I do miss umpiring, but it’s completely changed now, umpiring is done by a machine,” he told the Daily Mail. “In my era, we made the decisions on the field.”
