After 20 years, Dr Khalil Chisty finally returns home
He was received by a host of supporters, media men and politicians, including Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Ghouri at the Jinnah International airport in Karachi.
Express News reporter Vakeel Rao reported that Dr Chishty thanked the media for their prayers and support which had aided his return to Karachi. He added that his happiness knew no bounds.
Dr Chishty has reached house no. B-210 in North Nazimabad, returning to his home after almost 20 years.
Earlier on Tuesday, a frail looking, teary eyed Dr Khalil Chishty was wheeled off the President’s special plane, and on to Pakistani soil in Islamabad.
Dr Chishty, who was allowed by the Indian Supreme Court on humanitarian basis to visit Pakistan, was flown from New Delhi to Islamabad, aboard the President’s special plane. He was received by Minister of Interior Rehman Malik at the airport.
Speaking to media men, he thanked President Zardari for his efforts in bringing him back to Pakistan, before being driven away in Malik’s car.
An Indian Supreme Court order in April this year and a consequent order from the same court last week have facilitated Dr Chishty’s journey to meet his family members in Pakistan. He will have to report back on November 1.
For Dr Chishty – who was sentenced to life imprisonment on January 31, 2011 after a protracted trial for his alleged involvement in a murder in 1992 – this is the first time in two decades that he crossed the Rajasthan border.
Local newspapers described the grief of the situation as he left the state in which he had been incarcerated for two decades.
Dr Chisty told the media: “I am thankful to you all. You all have been very kind.”

@YA: @YA: The electronic media is short of stuff to report. They have to fill the airtime after all. So they seize anything that could fill the air time cheaply. This situation is not satisfactory. They ought to make programs worth watching, their guideline should be to extend the mental horizon of the masses, not cashing in on any sensational or popular affairs. Incidentally, they hve done little to objectively describe the cse itself, how Dr. Chishti got into trouble in the first place, and whether the law treated him right or victimized him.
What happened to other four, who were arrested from the crime seen ?

For all those who want to know more about the case, this sums it up pretty well.
This man suffered for a crime he didnt commit, so his return should be celebrated! And the media did hype it up too much for ratings (as usual) but I feel this was Allah's way of rewarding him for his patience - such a vibrant welcome.
@truebluepakistani: when you become normal again, I mean no more blue than read the story again. He was given bail by SC and his appeal is still in court.
He committed murder there. Murderer here or there makes no difference. Celebrating show our wrong intentions. Thats bad!
Unnecessary Hype
The media is making a lot of noise and lot of celebration. but what they are not doing is to apprise the readers and the audiences (in case of electronic media) of the details of the case. This is what they should be doing right now.
I think the TV media has done a great disservice in making this private affair into a circus. The SC judgement was unprecedented and should be acknowledged, but providing such coverage makes the family vulnerable to unwarranted critique and stress. These people are not public figures and have suffered quite a bit already. It would be nice if everyone gives the family some space and like dawn the articles are not open to comments....
@Cosmo: The Supreme Court of India isnt convinced that he is Guilty. One of the retired SC judges thinks that he was falsely implicated because he is a Pakistani. A tit bit of info for you: A mob attacked Dr. Chishty's house in Ajmer, with the intent to kill, one of the attacker was shoot, Dr. Chishty did not do the shooting, the person who did it admitted to it and is currently in Jail and denied bail by the SC of India... I dont see the reason of such a harsh comment especially when its obvious you dont know the details of the case....
For sake of your gods sake, he's a convicted murder, whats their to celebrate about him? God save humanity !!
