Security to be tightened for Independence Day

Zulfiqar Mirza on Tuesday issued directives to police to devise an extraordinary security plan for independence day.

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza on Tuesday issued directives to the police to devise an extraordinary security plan in view of current law and order situation on the occasion of Independence Day in the province, particularly in Karachi and other big cities.

He asked to seek coordination with Pakistan Rangers Sindh and other law enforcement agencies.

He ordered strict security measures at Jinnah’s mausoleum, parks, beaches, zoological gardens and other public places, besides schools, colleges and other institutions where programs are organised on the occasion of Independence Day.

The sweeping and clearance of all these venues by the bomb disposal squad must be ensured, he ordered. He said the presence of the bomb disposal squad at these sites should also be ensured.

Mirza asked to devise security measures at sensitive places including airports, hotels, five-star hotels, food chains, embassies, residences of ambassadors, important government buildings, busy roads, shopping centers, markets and railway stations as well.

He also ordered beefing up snap checking, police patrolling, and picketing for swift action against suspects.

The minister directed traffic police to make a special plan to streamline the flow of traffic by deputing traffic police at busy roads, traffic signals and intersections. He also appealed to the people to celebrate Independence Day with simplicity in view of heavy losses due to natural calamities.
