ATC’s convictions: Off to the gallows

If Behram Khan is hanged on May 23 at 4:30 am, he would be the third prisoner to be executed out of the several who have been given death sentence by the ATC.

The previous special public prosecutor of the Behram Khan case, Naimat Ali Ramdhawa, shared details about the executions carried out of ATC convictions. Ramdhawa said that the first execution took place in 1999. Babli, a political activist, had kidnapped and raped a young girl. The second person, Shaikh Amjad, was hanged in 2004 for killing a young barrister, Shakir Latif. “He was awarded the death sentence by the same judge, Arshad Noor Khan, who gave the sentence to Behram Khan.” The third execution was held in February 2008 of a man named Javed Malik.

“It can be seen that that terrorists, who have killed dozens of people, are set free on account of a lack of evidence but killing a lawyer is another matter,” said the HRCP chairperson.
