Cricket: Mushtaq unlikely to get the job

It is likely that Mushtaq signs another contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board.

ISLAMABAD:
Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is unlikely to get the national bowling coach’s position despite expressing interest in the role and even coming in for an interview with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“Mushtaq, in a meeting with the PCB chairman, said he would only work with the board if he gets a three-year contract with a clause that does not allow the board to sack him,” said an official close to proceedings.

“After the interview, the PCB has not spoken to him which is a signal that they are not willing to accept his conditions.”

It is likely that Mushtaq signs another contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board, leaving behind Mohammad Akram, Jalal Uddin, Ian Pont and Sabih Azhar as the front-runners for the position. It has also been reported that head coach Dav Whatmore is more interested in bringing in a person of his own choice as the PCB postponed the appointment till after the tour of Sri Lanka.
