Transmission line from Thar may be approved

Sindh intends to complete some key schemes by year-end.

KARACHI: The central government has expressed hope that the project of laying a transmission line from Thar coal site to Matiari will be approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec).

This was discussed in a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House on Monday where provincial issues regarding the forthcoming Ecnec meeting came up for discussion.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Nadeemul Haq, Federal Planning Secretary Asif Bajwa, Sindh Board of Investment Chairman Zubair Motiwala and others.

Nadeemul Haq, while appreciating the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas dual road constructed as a public-private partnership with South Korean assistance, assured the province that the central government would support it in other mega projects as well.

Qaim Ali Shah said the government intended to complete some of the important schemes by December this year, aimed at providing relief and facilities to poor and common people.

He underscored the need for initiating some mega projects, visible to common people, adding in order to ease power shortage Thar coal was a prestigious project.
