LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Anwar Butt on Monday, citing personal reasons, refused to hear the pre-arrest bail application of a lawyer allegedly involved in Rs2.5 million cheque fraud case. Petitioner Malik Irfan Sadiq told the court that a false case has been registered against him to damage his repute. He submitted that the complainant, Muhammad Iqbal, had the support of local police. He said that the complainant and some 10 unidentified men had entered his office and forcibly taken away Rs50,000 cash and a cheque book from him. The FIR registered with Gulshan-i-Ravi police says Sadiq had given Iqbal a cheque drawn on Royal Bank of Scotland. He said the bank had refused to cash the cheque. After the judge’s refusal to hear the petition, the case file was sent to District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed for hearing on Tuesday (today).
