KARACHI:

An accountability court has said no to closing an investigation dating to 2001 against federal minister Syed Khursheed Shah.

On Saturday, judge Arshad Noor Khan rejected a report submitted by the deputy prosecutor general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Syed Amjad Ali Shah. NAB has asked for permission to close the investigation.

NAB looked into charges that Shah had allegedly amassed a huge fortune beyond his known sources of income. The report stated that as no evidence was found, NAB should be allowed to drop the investigations.

The judge noted, however, that earlier on, NAB had sought permission to file a reference against the all-powerful federal minister.
