Dual office case: Court advises president to relinquish political office

The Lahore High Court on Thursday ruled on a petition that it “expected” President Asif Ali Zardari to suspend all his political activities on the grounds that these activities were inconsistent with the neutrality and independence of the presidential office.

Skardu climber conquers Everest

Hassan Sadpara, who hails from Skardu which is home to the world’s second-highest peak K2, scaled the world’s highest peak on Thursday, becoming the second Pakistani to achieve the feat.

He made it without any oxygen supply, which makes his achievement even more courageous than that of Nazir Sabir, the first Pakistani who climbed the 29,028 ft (8,840 m) tall Mount Everest in 2000.

Lake water submerges Karakoram Highway

The newly formed lake in Hunza’s Attabad town severed the road links between Pakistan and China as rising water levels submerged part of the Karakoram Highway at Gulmit on Wednesday.

Without a proper spill-way for the lake, water levels are expected to keep rising to a dangerous level that threatens to flood a vast region in Hunza.

Slackistan to debut at Cannes

From the city that always sleeps, is ‘300 km away from Pakistan’ and the hub for every journalist descending into the country, comes the new slacker film Slackistan.

The trailer for the film debuted late last year and was talked about obsessively amongst what the film’s target audience will be – the bored 20-somethings whose days revolve around idly watching the news and figuring out where their lives are headed. 10 minutes of the film are being shown at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off in the French city this week.
