The Punjab government on Monday gave away laptops to 7,000 high achievers from Arid Agriculture University (AAU) and other institutes of the region. Distributed by PML-N MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, the laptops were given to the students of AAU, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila and Rawalpindi Medical College, among others.
Hamza Shahbaz said that besides distributing laptops, the Punjab government had spent Rs8 billion on scholarships for talented students under the Punjab Education Endowment Fund.
He said the provincial government had given away 125,000 laptops this year and about 300,000 laptops would be distributed among talented students in the next fiscal year.
The MNA said that the corrupt rulers had no right to raise fingers on the laptop project as all out efforts had been made to keep the distribution transparent and merit-based. Appreciating the students who got laptops, Sharif said the achievements of the youth should be appreciated to encourage them to work hard and build a better Pakistan.
