There were many moist eyes among those in the TV audiences and many more at homes and offices across India as people tuned in to watch the programme, which Aamir said in his ads he wanted to replicate the phenomena created by the epic Mahabharat and Ramayana teleserials of yore on Sunday mornings.
"My ammi (mother) was not here, she was in Pune. She liked the show and messaged, 'Dil pe lag gayi aur baat ban gayi'. It was very overwhelming that she liked the show. I had tears in my eyes. I am really happy," Aamir told reporters here Sunday.
"I was watching the show with my wife, the core team of the show and son Azad. I don't know how much Azad understood. I had tears in my eyes. I got good response for the show through industry people, various people, twitter reactions. Even our website crashed because of the traffic," added the 44-year-old.
Equipped with well-researched instances and case studies, Aamir's one-and-a-half hour programme was simultaneously beamed on Star Plus and Doordarshan, a first.
Not only that, in a bid to reach out to everyone, special screenings of the show were held in some villages in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat where people do not have access to televison.
The maiden episode highlighted how unethical medical practitioners are hand in glove with families wanting to kill the female unborn baby.
Aamir also dispelled the perception among people that female foeticide is practised by rural people or those living in small towns with Mitu Khurana, a Delhi-based doctor being asked by her orthopaedic surgeon husband and in-laws to abort her girl twins just after 20 weeks of conceiving. Finally, she left home to save her twin daughters from death.
Viewers have given the thumbs up to Satyamev Jayate, saying it is a gutsy, hard-hitting and sensible programme that strikes an emotional chord with the audiences.
"What Aamir Khan is doing is fantastic. He has shown all aspects of the issue - the minuses and what could be done to prevent it. He has not left it hanging in the middle. He has shown the total picture. He has done it in a way that it will touch the hearts of people," said Ranjita, a Delhi-based counselor.
The show's success can be estimated from the fact that it occupied the "top five trends" on the social networking site Twitter. Even before Aamir could wrap up the episode, 2,254 tweets were notched up.
If that's not enough, Satyamev Jayate received such an overwhelming response that its official site crashed within minutes of the end of his programme due to huge traffic.
In terms of business too, Aamir has managed to draw big brands and loads of moolah to sponsor a reality show that puts the spotlight on the invisible people in the country. Airtel is the title sponsor, while Aquaguard Axis Bank, Berger Paints, Skoda, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson and Dixcy Textiles paying crores for the show.

We should have a show like this in Pakistan too...since we have a lot of ills in our society: child abuse, forced marriages, torture, acid burning, child marriages, rapes, sexual harassment etc -- and I feel once we expose these taboo topics in Pakistan only then we can sort out our problems towards a better society!
@Adil: I am a fan of Shah Rukh as well and I think he HAS attempted different roles e.g. scientist in Swades, hockey coach in Chak De India, autistic person in My Name is Khan, adulterer in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna etc. His role in Veer Zara was pretty different too. The poetry he reads in the last court room scene in Veer Zara can make anyone cry.
Of course Aamir is wonderful too. They both are contributing in a big way to India in their own ways. Shah Rukh by spreading soft image of India internationally where his movies are big hits in so many countries and Aamir by making thought provoking movies.
@Adil: "As a human I really felt bad for all the mothers on the show who were robbed off their daughters before giving birth to them and holding them in their arms, and could easily feel anger towards the doctors who acted like butchers not even bothering about the plight and emotions of mothers."
Even more than the doctors one must feel anger at the husbands who are doing this to their own blood and being uncaring about their own wife's emotion.
@hasan:
This also happens in PAkistan. Just no-one talks about it. In India there are 1.12 boys born for every 1 girl. In Pakistan there are 1.10 boys born for every 1 girl. India is marginally worse than Pakistan but both countries are MUCH WORSE than even developing country averages. Just in case you are interested, this problem is even worse in your higher han mountains friend due to their one child policy but that does not provide us any relief as Indians that China is worse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listofcountriesbysex_ratio In any event this is such a bad situation that citizens of each country should focus on fixing the mess in their respective countries instead of trying to hide behind what's going on in someone else's country.
@Bak-Bak.com: "Would he will be able to reduced female feticide and other major issues in India?" Only effort is in human being's hand. Result is in God's hand. Amir has made sincere effort. Now he may get more success (like the DC of Nawashahar) or less success (like the sting journalists who exposed 140 Doctors indulging in this malpractice).
@Umair: "now i have to see it on YouTube" you can watch in on their site: www.satyamevjayate.in Cheers
@Adil: Thank you Adil. I agree with you that women are disempowered in India and Pakistan in different ways. We should not sweep these issues under the carpet but rather talk about them to change the social mindset and also holistically address them socially, economically, legally and politically.
@ali tanoli: You may have noticed most Indians on this board (including me) commend Amir's show even though it brings forward uncomfortable truths. We did not say " Oh China has it worse with their one child policy'. Let Chinese people fight to fix the wrongs in Chinese society. It is up to us Indians to fix the wrong in our society. We will not use weaknesses in other societies as a camouflage to hide behind.
Along with appreciating Amir Khan for the great gesture,I wish that Shah Rukh Khan also comes up with something as great as Satyame Jayate, I have been a great admirer/fan of SRK most of my life, and would wish that he increases frequency of his movies and come up with some show that deals with social and perhaps global issues.Amir made a separate spot for himself due to the diversity present in his career/roles and SRK has wasted a lot of time by sticking to YashRaj banner and Raj,Rahul type of roles. I wish that someday I witness the same energy and motivation on behalf of King Khan too.
What do you think of Satyamev Jayate? Would he will be able to reduced female feticide and other major issues in India?
@hasan: go watch ur oscar winning doccumentory saving face and than comment...women's right in pakistan is worst than anywhee else in world...
i agree with INDIAN and Dr. Mishra plzzzzzzzz Mr. Tanoli im from pakistan too i watched the show and am glad that is which part of the world atleast ppl are tryiong to speak openly about it. In Pakistan too there are such heinous crimes agianst women and even more. Stop this india pakistan thing think positive and good things may come to you. appreciate good and you would be appreciated too. Both Indians and Pakistanis and times act in a very unjust manner by criticising one another and the countries under discussion which is wrong. AAMIR KHAN does had has done great work. HATS OFF to him :)
SUPERB EFFORT!!! yOU rOck Amir :)
An other positive step by Aamir Khan to bring change in the society, this is how all works by accepting the problems and then trying to mitigate the problems as Aamir is doing.. Gr8 work by Aamir khan Hats Off
@Shahrukh: He is in a different league all together.
Thank you, Shahrukh. Now admit that in public.
Ha ha India is the place where all this happens....They should be like us the pakistanis where such bad things don't happen....India should learn from Pakistan. Women never face a problem here. India is backward to pakistan. only indian media shows that it is growing .In their dirty country women are not safe..but in pakistan all women enjoy freedom and safety...pathetic indians
Great initiative by Amir Khan. Even though I have been a fan of Shah Rukh Khan but can't deny the fact that if you look through past 10-13 years then every character played by Amir was a unique one,and he shows a diversity in his set of roles...he could be a teacher(Taare Zameen Per),a terrorist/separatist(Fanaa),a genius student(3 idiots),a cop(Sarfarosh) or anything else.
The very first episode of Satyamev Jayate was superb with a lot of info.I am a Pakistani not an Indian but really appreciated the way Amir Khan talked about a disturbing issue and how it has evolved and grown in the Indian society over the past 3 decades. As a human I really felt bad for all the mothers on the show who were robbed off their daughters before giving birth to them and holding them in their arms, and could easily feel anger towards the doctors who acted like butchers not even bothering about the plight and emotions of mothers.
@Ali Tanoli,:
I am a Pakistani too but can you please stop spitting hatred and venom against any nation or religion? You are talking as if women in Pakistan are enjoying a great amount of respect, security and benefits. What about the documentary Saving Faces even though it brought Oscar to Pakistan? Have you seen shows by Shaista Wahidi and Nadia Khan? They have also shared such stories in their episodes. Atleast Amir Khan is doing something for his nation which no other Bollywood celebrity has done, he felt sorrow of masses and now presents it. I would apologize to Indian viewers here on behalf of some people who came up with their immature remarks.
now i have to see it on YouTube
No disrespect to Oprah, but Amir is legions ahead what with Taarey Zameen Par (autism), Pipli Live (farmers poverty) and now this. Oprah started off in a shrill and sensationalising way.
@Ali Tanoli, buddy, I am very polite on Pakistani websites but on this occasion I will say- strong textSHUT UP. Dont talk about womens rights in India from a country where 5000 girls schools have been attacked by Taleban and where a rape victim has to get 2 male witnesses. Pl showa little sensitivity, you are witnessing history being made. Pl do go and see the acid burn face documentary made by your own Chenoy, a very sad movie.
We tackle our social evils together, yours are much deeper and on too many fronts. Peace to all in Pak
This is a women rights in india what a shame.
@Ali Tanoli: Now why are you bringing religion? In India it happens across the board just like other things. Regarding muslim countries, world is less care about their social things, since many of them does not have democracies. Only because of terrorism, pak is in news otherwise no one is interested. World understands India's diversities in terms of religion, race, caste- creed, languages and various other complexities. But one thing for sure India has ability to improve day by day and we are showing this in terms of result for past 20 years. We don't expect the world to guide us in this regard we know the solutions and we are working on it. Such a diverse civilization of 1.2 billion people itself consider as magic. Have some patience Mr. tanoli we will overcome these sort of social problems with passage of time. Hey and don't forget to watch the next episode of Satyamev jayate another social problem of India. I am expecting same comment on that issue too. :) Your country is also having similar problems and you will also learn from the program. Removing social problem is continuous thing for any society.
What a great sin being commited in India with the femal baby but no one in the west talk aboout it if that was in muslim country forget about it how much media yahood crys it. oof Allah.
Never seen such a beautiful show!

Watch it !
The best khan in bollywood
Oprah wannabe...
Very Good topic taken for Debate in Satyamev Jayate on Sunday in Star Plus Programme was very interesting and knowledgeable. This will help in creating awareness among people to curb Female Foetecide. Well Done Amir. Way of presenting the topic was also very good.
Krishan Grover Ambala City
Is it limited only to India? See the spread of blood of her unborn babies across Bharat Mata, you will not fail to see that east and north east was spared. That is because of respect women enjoy in North east seven sisters,Bengal Orissa and Bihar.I was wondering how would it look across all of SAARC countries? Well done Aamir!
He is in a different league all together.
its really a great show..its create awareness among women not only in India and also in different part of the world.such shows also introduced in Pakistan too.
i loved it , he always does deliver whatever he promises
Nice show. Social change is very slow process atleast it should be continuous. Amir khan has become Oprah of India.
