Rockets land in Peshawar, no casualties reported

Rockets land in University Town area, gate of private hostel damaged.

PESHAWAR: Two rockets, fired from an unknown location, landed in the University Town area of Peshawar early Friday morning, damaging the gate of a private hostel.

An official of University Town Police Station told The Express Tribune that two rockets had landed in the University Town area at 2am and exploded.

“One of the rockets hit the main gate of a private hostel damaging it,” added the official, stating that the target of the attack could have been the American Club.

“The target could be the American Club in the area, but another high value target, Bacha Khan International Airport, is also situated adjacent to the Town area which could also be a target for the militants,” said officials. They added that both rockets were Russian made and had been fired from the Khyber Agency direction.

In a separate incident, a bomb exploded in the open fields of Kala Mandi of Chamkani. No loss of life or damage to property was reported.

The blast caused widespread panic in the area, but Chamkani police said that there was no loss of lives or property.

“The bomb exploded in the fields. We do not know whether it was thrown there or it had been concealed there to be used somewhere else, but there is no loss of life,” said SHO Haji Inayat while talking to media men.
