Shootout: ‘Wanted criminal’ killed by police

SHO said police had been chasing the two men after they reportedly snatched a motorcycle and Rs2,700 from Civil Lines.

A wanted criminal was killed in a shootout with police in Mansoorabad area on Wednesday night. His accomplice managed to escape from the scene.


Mansoorabad SHO Zafar Iqbal identified the deceased as Aamir alias Pitra, a resident of Sufi Chowk in Ghulam Muhammadabad. He said the encounter between Pitra and his accomplice and police officials of Lorry Adda and Sargodha Road stations took place near Crescent Model High School Bolay Di Jhugi. He said Pitra was killed while his accomplice managed to flee. None of the policemen was hurt in the shootout, he added.

He said the police team had been chasing the two men after they reportedly snatched a motorcycle and Rs2,700 from one Luqman in Civil Lines area.

Lorry Adda and Sargodha Road police were alerted about the robbery by officials at a picket in Tariqabad. The suspects had opened fire at the picket and fled when they were asked to stop for a security check.

The SHO said Aamir was wanted in 40 cases. He was carrying a bounty of Rs200,000.

This is the ninth robbery suspect killed in the city in 40 days.
