No decision regarding Gilani’s disqualification yet: Fehmida Mirza
“I have to consult and discuss the matter. The detailed order [of the Supreme Court] is also expected – which is the main thing. I have to read the letter properly and see the legalities… Everything will be done legally and according to the rules,” she said.
The speaker added that everyone was in a hurry and expected her to pass a decision immediately which is not possible. “The letter came to my secretariat… It goes through a procedure before it arrives at my desk.”
Regarding the opposition’s protest against Gilani forcing him to step down from power, Mirza said that the opposition has not contacted her in this regard. “Even in the Business Advisory meeting, no such thing was discussed… But I am ready to listen to them. I’m hoping they will come and talk to me about their issues.”
The Supreme Court of Pakistan, holding Gilani in contempt of court, passed a short order earlier this month and transferred the authority to Speaker of National Assembly regarding his disqualification.
Following the order, several political parties of the country held protests and demanded Gilani to step down from power calling him ineligible for his post. Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz has regularly been creating a ruckus inside the National Assembly.

It may come as a surprise to you, the judicial system in Pakistan, is not the same as in the US. This is a different country.
@major-ji: Her impressive CV aside, what qualification does the speaker possess that would enable her (independent of any government crony) to effectively comprehend and implement an order of the SC?
The constitution gives this final authority to the elected speaker of the elected national assembly. Eat your heart out the opponents of the elected parliament, which is supreme and can write or change the laws. The speaker has this right just like the constitution has given the head of the state right to pardon anybody of any crime. Remember even the death sentence appeals go to the president after the SC decision. Even after the SC judgment the appeal to president is final in most constitutional democracies including Pakistan. Yes everybody does not have to be a lawyer or judge to simply read the laws and make a decision about the pardon. Most presidents do that all the time that is why they have the advisors in all spheres. In fact in the US most cases are decided by jury made of common people, like a combination of house wives, butcher, carpenter, student, clerk, teacher, nurse, etc.
Madam Speaker needs to scrutnise the impeccable record of Mr Gilani who fought the judiciary in order to safe guard the constitution of the country by not writing the letter to Swiss banks where country's President hard earned money was deposited due to poor law and order conditions prevailing in Pakistan.

To me your fear is well founded. Can a professional doctor that too in the field of gynecology will be able to interpret the SC order contained in the letter? A million dollar question.

The SC needs 9 judges to hear an appeal, presently they only have 6 that are eligible.Thus, three new judges need to be appointed . this process in itself will take a month of Sundays
The appeal period allowed is 30 days. So, it is a fair bet that appeal will not be lodged till the very last minute .
What is the procedure once an appeal is lodged, that is, days a response comes through.... we don't know.(maybe a lawyer can tell us all)
in other words the whole process will take forever, and in the meantime Gilani will rule, convicted but only maybe.....
So, The Speaker has plenty of time to reach a decision......

As the PM is still enjoying majority at the floor and no one has asked his resignation from the rulling coallision thus the case is crystal clear .
As per my understanding the Speaker has 30 days after the Appeal is rejected (if it is rejected) to forward the case to the ECP who will make the final decision on if Mr. Gillani is disqualified from being an MNA or If the ECP disqualifies him then he is no longer eligible to be PM because to be PM you must be an MNA

PM Gillani should stay till budget to announce. After budget he should leave the office as soon as he can. All the employees are waiting for a smooth budget therefore Speaker need to wait for a month and till that the detail verdict of Supreme Court will also be come for vacant his port though he is guilty and embarrass to the nation as well. PM need to had write a letter to Suiz for fair investigation. He is ventilator moreover he is not bad customer performed the duties well.
...at least here we have someone behaving sensibly.
