Disease prevention: Anti-polio drive starts in Mirpur

DHO said 182 mobile teams of male and female paramedics have been constituted

As many as 71,000 children under the age of five will be inoculated against polio in Mirpur district as part of the three-day nationwide anti-polio campaign that started here on Wednesday.


Mirpur District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Muhammad Bashir Chaudhry said that 182 mobile teams of male and female paramedics have been constituted, while 38 fixed centres have been set up to administer children with anti-polio vaccine. He said that 17 transit points have also been established across the district to inoculate children.

The DHO said that for the campaign, the district has been distributed into four administrative zones, and one tehsil supervisor has been appointed for each zone.  Meanwhile, one ward in-charge has been deputed for each of the 45 union councils of the district, he said. Dr Chaudhry added that 4,000 vials of polio vaccine have been arranged for Mirpur district.
