The CNG cylinder exploded as a result of a fire which had erupted after the fuel tank of the school van had exploded.
The teachers and the student received severe burns in the accident.
A Civil Society Front (CSF) report released in April had revealed that as many as 2,000 people were killed as a result of CNG cylinder explosions last year.
The report had said that the number of people killed in CNG cylinder explosions was four times greater than the number of people who died in US drone strikes in 2011.

What a terrible loss of life. Please try to understand the context of the drone comparison since it doesn't seem to be coming across for some. Clearly the message is not alluding to drones being anything less than terrible. It justifies the rallies and loud political fervor. How about the country's leadership giving some attention to this senseless and preventable situation. Most of us have or know of someone with CNG cylinders installed in their autos. We send our kids in vans/buses running on these things. How about sitting in traffic behind one of these ticking nightmares?? This problem is only going to get worse with aging sub-par equipment, improper maintenance and lack of regulatory control. Over 2000 innocent lives lost last year! That is a HUGE number folks and it's not getting better without the proper attention. These tragedies should be headline worthy news just as drone coverage is - if not bigger. That was the writers point and I really hope you all will get it too
Why not require each vehicle to be inspected and the tanks/system to be certified before fuel station is allowed to refuel them --- not rocket science and it's time to eliminate these tragedies.
“The report had said that the number of people killed in CNG cylinder explosions was four times greater than the number of people who died in US drone strikes in 2011"
This doesn't justify drone strikes at all, come on tribune, stop acting as US spokes person
The comparison here to drone strike is only to Wake-Up the people for serious issues at hand. All such issues are being thrown in the Back Seat and ignored by the incompetent Current leaders who like to blame foreign hands in Pak troubles, but actually they are them self killing innocents by their carelessness toward the needs of struggling masses.
Their bickering about Drones is only to Hide their own Folly.
These comments do not justify drone attacks. The amount of effort and time spent on condeming drone attacks has been huge. If only a fraction of that time could be spent on eliminating the causes of this accident, it would be more useful.
We as a nation cannot stop the drone attacks. We could reduce the # of CNG cylinder explosions if we put an effort on to it.
Its very sad. Praying for the families.
Accidents do occur, some are force majeure, and some are due to ignorance.
Who will take action to get the vehicles checked and tested before they come on road? Owner? Traffic Police? Government?
@adeel: Exactly what I was thinking! It's disgusting to see how drone strikes are being compared here to something that happens due to an accident or at worst negligence.
"The report had said that the number of people killed in CNG cylinder explosions was four times greater than the number of people who died in US drone strikes in 2011. "
What kind of comparasion is this, is this really required at this sad moment and please stop justifying US drones through these cheap tactics.
is this the justification of US drones or a news?
Extremely sad news.
This is terribly sad. My condolences to the bereaved families.
I have seen photographs of huge buses fitted with several large CNG cylinders. These buses are moving bombs which can explode and take dozens of lives.
The Motorway police and the traffic police shall take notice and arrest these criminals who play with lives of passengers for petty gains.
