LAHORE/ KARACHI: Two writ petitions were filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday and one in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on seeking legal action to depose Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani from authority, after his conviction by the Supreme Court in a contempt of court case. A legal notice was also issued to Gilani, claiming he is ‘illegally’ functioning as the prime minister. Lawyer Moulvi Iqbal Haider filed a petition to the SHC requesting the National Assembly speaker to forward a reference, sent by the petitioner against the prime minister, to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). The petition is likely to be heard by a division bench of the SHC on Monday. Two identical writ petitions were also filed in the LHC on similar grounds. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Inqilab chairman Rana Ilamudin Ghazi and Advocate Shahid Naseem Gondal filed the petitions through their counsel A K Dogar.
