Seeking Protection: Jirga separates married couple

HYDERABAD: A court in Shaheed Benazirabad sent a woman to Darul Aman who was separated from her husband after three years of marriage by a jirga . The jirga allegedly took place in Bandhi area of the district under the Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio and separated the couple, Gul Bakht Brohi and Liaquat Chandio. Chandio was given the option to either give a girl from his family in marriage to the Brohis or to separate from his wife. Reportedly, he could only offer his two- year- old daughter to the Brohis and was thus forced to leave Gul Bakht. However, his wife instead of returning to her family reached the police station on Thursday night and was brought before a civil judge on Friday.
